3rd stop : Christchurch.
City with nice weather but many constructions π π️
From Twizel, we drove first to Lake Tekapo, and to Astro Cafe for sightseeing and light snack (view was amazing, as always). Went to The Church of The Good Shepherd and had lunch at Geraldine.
After 3-4 hours driving, we finally arrived at Christchurch. Finally after all of those 1 line road state highways with field and mountains π£️⛰️π», we've encountered wide city road with red lights and buildings around! π¦ππππ¬π’
We went to Kaikoura the next day, yes, the seaππ!! Long drive, but loving the sea and its surroundings! We had a bit of time before our Whale Watching ride, so I took a nice walk by the beachπ️, when the sun's still not too strong π (though my slightly sunburnt face might disagree)
Then we went on a whale watching boat. Managed to see Tiaki, the big sperm whale π³, a group of playful Orcasπ¬ π¬, and flocks of dolphins π¬π¬π¬. What an amazing and humbling experience, and the crew on the boat made it fun too with their commentaryπ₯️. Got our lunch from Kaikoura Seafood BBQ food truck , then went back to the city for some desserts, and walk around the park & beach.
Went back to Christchurch and went groceries shopping. We managed to get nice Easter discounts for food. Went home and cooked some awesome steaks and meatballs. π½️
Met Tachu the next day! Had some nice Japanese lunch then went for a walk and talk through University of Canterbury Art Center, Canterbury Museum, and Christchurch Botanic Garden! πππ
Walking back, passing Hagley Park / Oval where there's a cricket match went on π. Had no idea about the game, but went to watch it anyway for a while (found out the next day that apparently it's a match between a NZ club vs England, and they won for the first time since 1999). Got us some nice crunchy food truck doughnuts π©, then went back to our accommodation and cooked some spaghetti meatballs for dinner π
